I used my pack for the first time in the Lake District last weekend and it was fantastic! Loads of storage space which made eating on the move much easier. I ran through some severe weather at the start of my run and everything stayed dry. The pole storage works perfectly with no bounce and there are lots of handy options for attaching your compass, watch (while charging) etc. It’s the best thing I’ve bought in ages!

“Hi. I’m another one that picked up one of these for the Summer Spine (Challenger South). Thanks for sending out so swiftly Jody. This is a great bit of kit. It served me brilliantly, a good size for snacks / maps segments / battery pack / lip salve and a few other bits. Worked well with a Montane Gecko. I upgraded the zip pull with a chunkier piece of cord but that’s personal preference really. Can’t fault it. Cheers!”

The Wall - Stuart finish

I saw the Geekyhiker pack when it was reviewed on the RunUltra website just after the Winter Spine 25. I had been looking for a chest pack for extra storage, as I was going to be taking on The Wall in 2025. Jody was fantastic in answering my questions, and as soon as the colourway I wanted came into stock, I ordered my pack so that I could use it on my long training runs before race day.

The Geeky Hiker packs fit like a dream, with minimal movement even during running. Recognising some fitting issues that people have experienced with other brand chest packs, the simplicity and ease of fit with Geeky Hiker packs offer a notable advantage. I was using it with a Salomon Adv Skin12, which sat perfectly around it. The chest pack is invaluable for keeping the essentials at hand while out on the trails. Even in the torrential rain that we experienced at the start of The Wall this year, the Geeky Hiker pack managed to stave off the rain.

I’m looking forward to many more outings with my pack and can’t wait to bring it to the Summer Spine Sprint South in 2026 as I begin my journey in the Spine family.

I first knew I needed something when I did a 35 mile walk with a drawstring bag round my neck as wanted easy access to snacks. This is what caused me to start looking. I've now used my Geekyhiker on a number of occasions and honestly wouldn't be without it. Just means I can have easy access to caffeine/ meds/ plasters/ snacks without having to take my rucksack off. I've also bought new foldable hiking poles so I can store them in the appropriate place on the bag. Again much easier to get the poles out mid walk rather than having to take the bag off. Massive game changer. Would definitely recommend, Thanks

I wanted to submit a review for my Geeky Hiker. I purchased this a few months ago as part of my kit preparation for the summer spine. I have always struggled with waist packs previously and had never tried a chest pack. I was hoping I could get away with just using my Montane Gecko 20l pack but I had to face up to the fact that not only was that pack not quite big enough for all the Spine kit, but the front pockets couldn't carry enough accessible food for each stage. I decided to try out the Geeky Hiker pack after seeing numerous positive reviews on the Spine Facebook page and I was delighted I did so. For a race like the Spine it's really important to have easy access to food. As I got more and more tired, I became less and less keen to take my pack off to access the main bag. Having the Geeky Hiker meant I always had easy access to food. It fitted perfectly with no bounce (at Spine speed anyway) and no rubbing on my shoulders even after 134 hours. It's a great piece of kit for a long distance event like the Spine.

Below is a photo of me finishing with my Geeky Hiker looking resplendent.

Best wishes

Thanks for getting my GeekyHiker to me so promptly before the summer Spine races. I'd been looking for a small pack to compliment my running vest for a while and it was a few people from the Spine community that sent me your way.

My GeekyHiker was perfect. It compliments my running vest perfectly, giving me convenient access to all my essentials and easy access to my snacks. It also was super convenient to stuff my map behind it for the last 20 miles after my Garmin failed.

This was my first time at this distance (Spine Challenger South) and I learned that just because you can physically make it that far it doesn't mean you will!! It all comes down how much you're prepared to suffer and when you are in a crap place the really small things become massive to you. My GeekyHiker was a place for my small things, like a little hand written postcard from a lady I've never met but I was lucky enough to have bought a bag from. A note that said you believed in me and to believe in myself and I will finish. Here's a photo of me with my GeekyHiker, medal and map stuffed behind it!! Thank you so much

I bought the Geek for the Spine Challenger South race. What a brilliant bit of kit it turned out to be. I did all my training with it and wondered how I ran longer ultras without it!

It’s very comfortable to wear, almost no movement. It’s a perfect size to stash snacks, battery packs, wires, etc. the big advantage of having your food so handy is you actually do eat it. 2 small compartments on the front which held gps and phone well too.

It’s not a faff to get on and off. I have the UD fastpack 35, geek goes on first, pack 2nd.

Highly recommend this chest pack, great bit of kit.

Hi Jody

I want to thank you for making my Spine Adventure so much easier having my pack at my finger tips.  I had my charges in it, so my watch & phone got charged on the move.  I could nibble my food constantly & my gps unit was there if I needed it.  This made such a big difference, taking the stress out of the little things you worry about.
What a wonderful piece of kit, I absolutely love it!!

Hiya I geeked it up on the spine too, the pack fitted perfectly for what I wanted, it carried my electronics, maps, compass and food when wearing it between stations. Thank you for such a functional design that is purpose built and works well. There are no improvements required for me, I love it

I got my chest pack a few months ago as I finessed my kit for the Summer Spine 2025.  I have been absolutely delighted with it.  I have just got home from the race and have to say it served me very well.

Over the course of the race, I honestly forgot I was wearing something with straps both over the shoulders and around the abdomen— it was so comfortable.  It was so easy to access food, such that keeping up with nutritional needs was not something to focus on.  There was also plenty of space for other items as conditions changed.

I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it as a great accessory for any runner/hiker.

Thanks

Just to let you know I finished the Spine Race Challenger South at the weekend. I was using my chestpack with my UD Fastpackher 20L running vest. V pleased with it. This combo enabled me to carry all my mandatory clothing and equipment in the back pack and my food/snacks in the chestpack so I could easily eat 'on the go'. Eating enough during the first 15 or so hours of the race was a concern for me as the remoteness of the route meant there was nowhere to access extra food (checkpoints, shops etc) - it all had to be with me. The chestpack was roomy enough for my snack bars, energy supplements and a sandwich and I also used it to store my gloves (which were on, off, on, off due to changeable weather and I didn't have to reach around myself to get them out of pockets in the running vest. Also carried my debit cards in the inside pocket for easy access in case phone payment failed when I did get to shops or support teams with food. I have never previously used a chestpack and was a tad concerned beforehand that it would prove uncomfortable or annoying when running but actually it's easy to forget that it's there! Love the handwritten and personalised note with the delivery, nice touch, thank you.

I am so glad I bought this - already stressing less about accessing all the things I am likely to want to get at whilst keeping the emergency stuff “in the boot”. Prepping for my first (read only) 100 miler.

Very pleased with the chest pack on recent recce along the coast on the Scottish Borders. Now affectionately nicknamed “the handlebar bag” by my cyclist husband  Fantastic if you are using handheld GPS - I give it top marks.  Terrific product, thanks Jody

I used my GeekyHiker while running The LAP last month. It was brilliant. I can't stress how easy it was to stash my poles, no other system comes close. As well as keeping my fuel handy the pack also let me stash my camera for easy access. I didn't have to go in my backpack once because everything I needed was in front of me. Pic attached, but there's also a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDCcP8KDABM

May 25 - I bought the Geeky Hiker chest pack with my LDWA events and Pennine Way adventure in mind, this worked out well. I have a comfortable rucksack (Berghaus Deuter Guide 35+) but it is lacking in pockets on the waist belt and general accessibility without taking it off. I also wanted to try and balance the weight more evenly. The Geeky Hiker is great as it fits totally independently of my rucksack and so easy and quick to get on and off. I put my gloves in the front elasticated pocket once I take them off first thing in the morning after a cold start, next in the zip pocket, I put my phone. Inside the main pouch, I put my compact camera, all my food for the day and sometimes a 500 ml bottle of water. Very pleased and wouldn't be without it now on long days in the hills.

This was I admit a bit of an impulse purchase just before my first hundred but I needed a front pouch with decent storage. Lots of colour choices, support and delivery within 24 hours persuaded me.

The pack is really comfortable under a running vest, no rubbing or pulling. And it’s like a Tardis! I tethered my GPS unit to the front loops and then it was readily accessible in the net pouch. Outer pocket stored cup, phone, bank card and cash. Inner pocket for medication, lipsalve and salt tablets. And in the main part I had Tailwind sachets, spoon, sunglasses and lots of food plus a spare flat water bottle. All really easy to get too leaving my running vest for the mandatory kit. Brilliant design and really well made - thank you so much @geekyhiker xx

I did the 2024 Summer Spine Sprint with a 15 litre backback which at the time was just big enough.

This year, I am doing the Summer Challenger South and I quickly realized that I would need more carrying capacity (insulated jacket now on kit list) and I want to take trekking poles.

The GeekyHiker front bag looked ideal. It would free up some room in the main backpack for the insulated jacket, it had straps for carrying poles and it would offer quick access to snacks etc so I wouldn't have to stop to take off the main backpack as often.

Here's a picture of me using the bag on a recce from Hebden Bridge to Gargrave. The bag worked well thanks.

I’ve only used it a couple of times but this is enough to know it’s been put together by someone who knows their stuff. On first impression it looks, well a bit geeky, but the design just works. The harness is super-secure so the pack doesn’t move around and it also stays really close to your chest even when you bend forward. In fact I think the harness is the Geek’s super-power. I’ve used it so far with a couple of running vests (Montane Gecko VP+ and 12) and they both combine perfectly well with the Geek. The harness also means you can take off your pack without having to unbuckle your Geek.

Compare this to other designs where the chest pack is attached to the rucksack or running vest:

  • It’s hard to get a secure non-swinging fit

  • Typically the check pack will fall away from your body when you lean forward

  • Attaching the chest pack to the rucksack all depends on the attachments and you need to re-do it every time you use a different rucksack

  • If you want to take off your rucksack you have to unclip your chest pack

The storage space is ideal for my use-case. I use my Geek to carry my camera. It’s a micro-four thirds and there is plenty of room for camera and a decent sized lens, plus a spare lens if needed. The internal and external pockets are good for spare batteries or cards, or even snacks / keys / phone etc.

Love what you’re doing.

All the best, Ian

Michelle with her husband & friend

Based on watching the Spine coverage I bought the Geeky Hiker for my husband who is doing Lakeland 100 at the end of July. I needed to wait for an event where he used the Geeky Hiker to do this review.

Yesterday we did the LDWA Ridgeway 40 and we filled the pack with all our spare food and kit that we needed to be accessible. He found the pack was really comfortable and didn’t bounce around at all. The pack made a massive difference as it was easy to access the food on the go, sort through and chose what we needed. He was really pleased with it and it will be a race saver for Lakeland.

Bought the pack after hearing good things about it and wanted easier access to my food during races.

This is only the second time I’ve used it and I love it already. It’s easy to put on, there’s no bounce and you hardly feel it’s there.

So good for storing fuel and snacks. I deffo kept my fuelling up better having it right in front of me!

Also a great place for my Garmin Inreach in the front little pocket.

I will absolutely be using this for every long run and race from now on! I actually can’t wait to use it on my next ultra! I think it’s going to be a game

Changer.

I’m back on the island now after the tr250. What an event, I’m still in shock.

I just wanted to say that the chest pack made such a difference. I could not possibly recommend it enough. Being able to just grab essentials on the go and not having to take the running pack off made such a difference. I was even able to fall asleep with it strapped on me.

This will be on my kit list for a long time to come!

Photo from the GB Ultras Chester 50 race earlier this year.

I received my chestpack only a couple of days before the event and didn't get a chance to test it or practice with it.

This wasn't a problem however. With just a couple of adjustments we were up and running.

It was super useful having the extra room upfront and it allowed me to charge my phone mid-race without the worry that the cable would come loose.

I've got the Pennine Barrier 50 lined up for the weekend after next so will give it another outing.

So far so good.

Cheers

So I originally had an OMM chest pod which came with my ruck sack, however I didn’t get on with how bouncy it was, and more so, the faff involved having to take it off and on every time I needed something from my pack. So I sold it and bought the Geeky Hiker which works perfectly. I like it because it  doesn’t need to be removed and fits really snugly to my body with little movement, and can fit a lot in the different compartments.

I found the bag really useful, the extra carrying space was brilliant and great to keep certain things in there for easy access - phone, electricals (inside an Airlock bag), snacks, compass, map!

It was bloody great, didn't shift at all, and was so handy for things I wanted easy access to. The day before I hadn't taken it and it was a right faff to get to all my bits and pieces. And when we needed to scramble to was so easy to store my poles. A brilliant really well designed bit of kit, thanks a million!

First things first, I'm bigger up top and hadn't thought I'd be able to use a chest pack. Luckily I was very wrong and I absolutely love the fit, the zero bounce (no elasticated attachments here!) and that I can't feel it when on under my running packs. I have the Inov8 Racepac20 and the UD Fastpack 30 and it works perfectly with both. Having used it for a few weeks now and on some long runs I've been really impressed with the pole and watch stowage and the amount the pack holds, as well as how simple it is to set up. Jody was brilliant too, answering multiple questions and keeping me updated with stock and delivery. Thank you! I love it.

I've been taking the Geek out in some long runs in the build-up to the SDW50, and I'm incredibly impressed with the quality and design. It doesn't look like it would be comfy, but it's super comfortable! doesn't budge and works perfectly under my Salomon ADV SKIN 12. There is plenty of space for any and all bits and bobs I need close to hand, and I am just really impressed with it as a well thought out piece of kit. I would recommend it to anyone and Jody's customer service when I've asked questions has been superb.

I bought my Geek after seeing how many people were using it in the Spine Race - I'm doing the Challenger South in the summer.  It arrived with a lovely personalised note from Jody. It was easy to set up and there's absolutely no bounce. I've been using it for a few weeks now and the Geek is a brilliantly designed product - I love the way the poles stash and don't get in the way when not in use.  I can stash my food in the main section and it's easy to get to, and phone, glasses & other bits in the front.  It comes out with me every time I go running now, and it will be with me on the Challenger South.  Thank you Jody!

First outing , elements were in full force, but felt firm & I was more able to eat (always a problem) more regularly & minimal pole pfaffage, although used them almost all the time.

My companions all v. impressed.

Just need to attach bits for running pack.

Love the colour!

First outing for my chest pack this weekend. The pack was easy to fit, comfortable with no bounce and ample space for “stuff”. This is possibly one of the best bits of kit I have bought in a longtime.
I emailed with a couple of queries before purchase and got prompt replies and all arrived quickly.
Thanks Geeky hiker

Chest packs are new to me, I’ve never used one before but after reading reviews on your product I was keen to try one out.
I run ultra’s regularly, overnight multi day non stop events and with  special dietary requirements I need to carry my own food. I have two running vests with various pockets, zips and Velcro, remembering where stuff is and opening pockets can be annoying, my fingers aren’t what they were!
The Geekyhiker chestpack is a good bit of kit having worn it on 3 training runs, 18 miles being the furthest so far. I simulated race conditions by packing into the chestpack everything I would need between the checkpoints on April’s Thames Ring 250 miler, typically 27 miles between each.
First time fitting was easy as I watched all the videos on the website, probably too high up on my chest but with a few adjustments whilst running and it was right. I tucked the excess of the straps through the elastic loops a couple of times rather than cut and sew as there maybe a time I would need the extra length. The pack is made of a tough material so I’m confident that it will do the job, carrying my essentials up to the 100 hour maximum time limit for the TR250.

Thank you Jody for sending out my pack so efficiently after receiving my order, for the handwritten good wishes and the Kendal Mint Cake, nice one.

Ethan

I purchased this bag after carefully reviewing my options, I needed something that would be hard wearing to handle ultras, 50 mile and above and also a rig that would support me during search and rescue. Something that’s designed for my needs. Since purchasing I have used the chest rig multiple times with absolutely no issues- I can confirm these fit perfect with both rucksacks and running vests and have 0 bounce, tightly secured but also really comfortable - so comfy you don’t actually even know it’s there.

There’s so many options of chest rigs on the market, you may be thinking about opting for slightly cheaper alternatives but don’t bother. Buy one of these and you’ll never look back.

I couldn’t be happier with my purchase, worth every penny spent, and have absolute confidence it won’t let me down.

Also I’d like to add the personalised card, along with a treat inside made it that much better - shipped and delivered promptly with no issues.

Just wanted you to know that your Geekyhiker pack is so versatile. As well as being an awesome chest pod. So much easier to put on and take off than other brands and never comes loose. It also makes a great windbreak for my cooker. My weekend in the Brecon beacons is so much better thanks to you

Geeky hiker chest pack

While preparing for the 2025 Winter spine I had researched a number of kit options and knew I wanted a chest pack to store some of the commonly used things such as electronics and more importantly food.

Having them in an easy to reach position was invaluable as day 3 onwards on the spine my shoulders were sore and flexibility was minimal so I really struggled to reach my race pack side pockets.

The great thing about the Geeky Hiker pack is there is no bounce as with some of the other brands around, you can wear it with the harness provided however I actually used the D rings and had straps sewed on to my Montane Gecko pack which made the carrying super easy.

Conditions during this year's event were testing to say the least, but everything stayed secured and dry throughout.

Honestly the pack was a great addition and at no point did it rub or become uncomfortable. I have recommended it to numerous friends and I would 100% wear again on any other events such as this.

Finally, the customer service received from Jody has been fantastic even sending a little treat with the pack... Ashamed to say it was my first kendal mint cake however not my last.

Fantastic piece of kit.

Hi Jody, just wanted to drop you a quick message to say thank you and well done for creating such a good piece of kit! The pack was invaluable on the spine sprint and I can’t see myself running any races in the future without it (watch out UTS 100k in May)! It’s really impressive how the quality and functionality really holds it’s own against (and in my opinion beats!) the big brands too.

I ran the Arc of Attrition this weekend. The kit list was quite extensive including a plate, cup and spork! I wore my GeekyHiker and just wanted to say how fantastic it was - I put all the essentials that I would need easy access to like my head torch, gloves and the rest of the space was used as a very handy picnic basket! I was worried about wearing it for such a long time but had no rubbing and actually felt really balanced with my pack!

The geekyhiker really was a game changer for me as I struggle to find the food I want in pockets on my back and it really took away the faff!

Amelia 26/1/25

"My name is Rebecca and I came third in this year's Winter Spine Sprint, representing Black Trail Runners.

It was the first time I've competed in a self supported race, so I spend a long time looking at all the kit options. I saw that a number of Spine participants had used the Geeky Hiker chest pack so I gave it a go!

My main priorities were comfort, accessibility and of course price had to come into it - there is a lot of expensive kit to buy for this race!

The ordering process was very smooth, my pack arrived and I was reassured that I could try it out and if it didn't work for me, send it back for a full refund. I used it alongside a Montane Gecko 20l. It was comfortable, no rubbing and I had enough room for all my Spine mandatory kit.

The pack is great quality and I used it to store all my easy access necessities - food/gels/Garmin tracker/gloves/chargers/wires/cash and cards.

There are even loops to carry your poles. Multiple pockets help with storage and there is a wide colour range to choose from!

I used the pack on my training runs and then finally in race day - it was fantastic and I would  recommend, especially to other Spiners.

Thank you, Jody, for making such a great product at such an accessible price.

Last week's winter Montane Spine Challenger North was my first competitive outing since investing in a Geeky Hiker. I was thrilled to complete nine hours ahead of the cut-off as joint-44th male. The Geek contributed towards this. The big thing it changes for me is that it empowers you to "be bothered" with minimal disruption - to perform vital admin without taking off your rucksack. It gave me easy access to my ice spikes, my pills (electrolyte and ProPlus towards the end), cash (to buy stuff from honesty boxes), my medication (I'm type 1 diabetic), my phone, my headtorch (plus spare batteries), handwarmers, hot chocolate sachets, route info cards and (probably most importantly) walking poles. This enabled me to devote my rucksack hip pockets entirely to food and coat pockets to GPS and hat/ gloves/ scarf. The unzipped Geek is also a useful little workbench for putting things down when performing tasks like changing batteries. It would be too simple to say that I would not have completed the race without the Geek, but it would be true to say that (i) I wouldn't have completed if I'd been less disciplined about taking electrolyte pills/ changing batteries in the GPS/ using poles/ putting on ice spikes, and (ii) I would have been less disciplined about these things if I'd had to take my rucksack off every time. As it was, I generally got to checkpoints having not taken off my rucksack since the previous one. So I'm a confirmed fan. I will be using it in my future ultra events. I recommend it to anyone. Thanks Jody for your thoughtful design and bullet-proof manufacture.

I just wanted to message to say thank you for the personalised message that came with the pack, that was a lovely encouraging message and it is little things like this that make this community so special. I would also like to say a huge thank you for designing such an amazing pack!

It well and truly was an absolute asset on my Spine adventure. It is so well thought out and if I could have I would have squeezed even more kit into it! It was fantastic having so much kit to hand to supplement the front pocket setup on my main pack. It fit perfectly between the straps and was comfortable for the whole event. I would have certainly been slower or worse off without this pack as it allowed me to get quick access to most things I needed easily and without faffing about taking my main pack on and off which obviously takes time and you get cold quickly when you stop. I had my eye on getting one of your packs all year as it just looked instantly better than the other options and I had confidence that something born out of the Spine itself would be most suitable and appropriate to get. As an added bonus I love the range of different colours so was glad I was able to get something to closely match my main pack.

  1. Map, compass, whistle in the nice thin front pocket,

  2. GPS unit with a clip on the loops in the second half of the event,

  3. Energy gel, energy chews, and rice crispy bar in the little mesh pocket. I had an almost identical food distribution from each CP so my instant energy hits were right here to hand and also a breakfast bar for each morning/dead of night feed as the first item to have.

  4. Main pocket used a bit more flexibly as store for hat, waterproof overmitts, gloves, buff and spare batteries and headtorch at times, inhaler, spork, GoPro (until it stopped working), a bit of extra food, pack of crisps each morning all depending on what I needed for the weather conditions that day or at that point. It did get a little tight in there at some points especially if I needed my bigger hat and gloves and also served as a temporary place to store a few things safely whilst I sorted myself out on the trail.

  5. Poles on the bottom.

Massive thank you again. I have been part of the Spine world either racing or volunteering most years since my first Challenger South in 2018 and have followed all the races closely since then and you get to recognise many of the names that keep popping up and it was great to see you complete in 2024. I can say that John Bamber and his chilliwack noodles up at Greg's Hut were incredible, they turned what was a really tough and lonely day around for me. I wasn't sure I was going to eat them going into the event as I am a bit fussy regarding food and trying something new out there didn't seem like a good idea but when I got there I absolutely needed and devoured them!

Paul

Well what can I say! I wanted a pack where I could easily access my phone and phone easily, on the Spine Challenger North!

I happened upon the GeekyHiker pack by chance. And what a game changer it was!! The fit and quality of the pack is second to none. The zips rugged enough to cope with my phone, food, power pack and much more! It meant I could eat on the move without having to take the backpack off each time! Which any trail runner knows is vital!

The added bonus was meeting Damian Hall and Allie Bailey and getting the pack signed!

Paul 17/1/25

Love my geeky hiker chest pack. I bought it for the great lakeland 3 day in May, to hold my map, compass, poles and snacks. It was boss! Loved having such easy access to my nav stuff and not having to fiddle around my behind for poles! Very comfortable, no jiggles, just perfect. Thanks for creating, it’ll be joining me on all my long days out.

Mini-review: the Geeky Hiker chest pack

In short, this is an awesome piece of kit for fans of long days, multi-day adventures, or simply those who like easy access to the essentials (snacks!) while on the trail.

The Geeky Hiker is designed by Jody Manning, an ultrarunner from South Wales, and the chest pack is made in Wales. Jody's inspiration for the design came from her attempts to complete the winter Spine race - a 268 mile epic along the Pennine Way. After 3 DNFs, she finished in 2024, spurred on no doubt by carrying her own check pack with her!

I bought my chest pack when I started prepping for my own attempt on the Spine, although (for now!) I'm 'just' having a go at the 108 mile Challenger South race.

Key features of the 'Geek' are that it's compatible with any running vest or pack, as it has its own integral system to wear it, and it doesn't need to be attached to your pack. It's got a spacious main pocket (I fitted all my food for 10 hour days, plus phone, map and compass into this pocket), pole attachments, and other useful bits and bobs such as a special set of loops to attach your Garmin to, when you don't want to wear it.

The question I've been asked most about the chest pack is 'doesn't it bounce?' I have to say that I thought it would - but it doesn't! Jody's clever harness system allows you to adjust each strap individually to get the perfect fit and positioning for you - which really helps when you take into account the big variations in breast size and position among female runners. It took me a few goes to get this positioning perfect, and to get the knack of the easiest way of taking it on and off, but now it's become second nature.

I spent four days recce-ing Challenger South with my chest pack, and by the end it was like another limb - for the next couple of days I kept reaching for my chest whenever I wanted my phone! It's a really clever, intuitively designed product from someone who understands the activity and the market they're designing for on a deep level.

Thanks, Jody!

Love the geeky hiker - so comfortable and so handy for all those essential items such as gloves, hats, headtorch and food. It's very well designed and high quality. I'm currently training for the Winter Spine Sprint and have been out on a few training runs/hikes with it - hardly notice it's there and means I can access items without having to take my bag off. Photo from a hike up Helvellyn on 2nd Jan :-).

Hardmoors 30 done , the chest pack was great for stashing snacks, gloves, buff and other kit in the nearly 10 hours I was out. The USP "poles in front" was the best bit meaning I could easily get them out and put away. Previously I'd get them out, then end up holding for ages awkwardly when not needed .

The pack fitted in the right place, worked well with my decathlon vest meaning I stored mandatory kit in the back of vest, and things I needed in front.

I'm going to go back to your vids to see if I missed any tips, as it was a fiddle to take everything off when I needed to remove a layer of clothes .I got confused with clips trying to attach Geek to vest clips....

Pleased with my purchase, thank you

Have just completed the Winter Downs 200 and used my chest pack throughout.

Game changer for me as it meant I could access all my food easily, which meant I fuelled properly. Before I had to either take my backpack off or become a contortionist to access food in the side pockets of my backpack. I could see instantly what was available just by looking down.

I could also hang my handheld gps unit on of the loops on the front. Brilliant for checking the route ahead.

The pack was very comfortable and the yoke is excellent. I have used an omm front pouch before that attached to my pack. This front pack is so much more comfortable and easier to use. The zip chestpockets meant that I could find charging cables, batteries and cash in seconds.

At aid stations I could leave the chest pack on saving time.

Zips were excellent and easy to use with cold tired hands.

Brilliantly thought out piece of kit

Had my challenger North kit on for an early long run this morning, just short of 40km from home to Edinburgh Castle.

Not the terrain or the Pennine way but still a great chance to test how everything feels on the move.

The Geekyhiker chest pack was ace, easy to adjust to get it snug enough but not restrictive, didn’t interfere with my bottles and so good having my snacks/gloves/head torch within easy reach.

I don’t know why folks would consider not using and having the faff of removing a pack to find the critical items you need on the move, one less thing to worry about.

Here is photo of the first try on, super pleased with the quality and the thought that's gone into the design.  there are little touches that show its designed by someone who runs and understands what's needed, for example, one of the straps on the back is sewn on at a different angle than the rest to help when first putting it on.

See you somewhere on the spine route...

Just wanted to say thanks for delivering my geekyhiker pack & the nice note & Kendal mint cake - not had that for a while but will enjoy it soon enough .
I had the chest pack out in the Cheviots today and was very happy . It was comfortable to wear ( kind of forgot I had it on a lot of the time )and found it very practical. It was so useful and easy to quickly get snacks out & check gps & phone . The quality of the material and the zips were reassuring & don’t doubt the durability at all .
Thanks again & I will certainly find it a valuable piece of kit on the Spine Challenger North .

I've been trying the chest pack out in the Lakes the last few days training for the Spine race. I'm really loving it so far. It's very well made and robust. I've been using the GPS pocket and practicing. I love that you don't have to remove it to take your rucksack off.  It's great having all your essentials to hand as well.

I've attached a few pictures from the weekend.

What a fantastic piece of kit. I wear it on all my long runs now..it's so versatile and robust . You hardly know it's there. It's such a comfortable chest pod and much better than other makes in my opinion. It's well thought out and you can tell it was designed by a runner.

Awesome kit !

That's me doing Spine training last weekend

Kevin 25/11/24

The chest pack is great! I have stitched on the D rings which you supplied and I have been experimenting with putting my GPS in the front. I have yet to take it out on the hills in anger so I don't have any photos as yet. I,m really glad I bought your chest pack as it's so much better than the OMM one. I will send pictures when I can!

With thanks for making a great product.

I bought mine with a view to some longer ultras (100km +) but gave it a test run at the Trail Outlaws Wooler Mountain Marathon recently.

I put my mandatory kit items in my backpack and my "every 5 minutes" items (food, hat, gloves, w/proof, map) in the Geeky Hiker chest pack.

I'm now kicking myself for not buying one sooner : No more stopping between aid-stations, hemorrhaging time, & no more going hungry or cold just to avoid stopping. So whether you're at the pointy end of the race, or (like me) you're trying to bribe the event sweepers, it's a win-win.

As for comfort, I barely knew it was there, which is EXACTLY how it needs to be.

In my humble opinion, it is the best thing since Bodyglide.

Hi Jody, took the chest pack for it's first run out today on a recce of Spine Sprint. Such a well designed and made bit of kit. Congrats on finding a gap in the market and creating a great bit of gear, everyone should have one.

Lisa & her dog Lani

My brother introduced me to your pack when we were on a trip to The Peaks last year. Whilst I definitely don't do anything as extreme as you guys (such as Winter Spine!), I do the odd ultra here & there. I also enjoy getting out in the hills/moors with my trusty sidekick - my labrador.

I've used the the amazing chest pack from @geekyhikergear on its own over the summer, but this week has been the first time I've paired it with a day pack & over longer distances. Forgot I even had it on - it didn't move (even when being towed down hill at speed by a labrador keen to catch up with the sheep!) & so handy to keep all the dog's stuff in (collapsible water bowl, poo bags, treats etc.) as well as my snacks, whilst the day pack had all the emergency essentials.

Can't recommend it enough and I tell everyone who will listen that they should get one! Whether you're a serious athlete, an amateur, hill walker,  dog walker or anywhere in between, you NEED one of these in your lives! Not the cheapest but a quality item that is worth every penny.

Hi Jody

Really pleased with our two geekyhiker bundles. I’ve kept the orange one - yaay!! My friend is happy with her black one.

Not worn them for long runs yet but happy with using as a solo pack for short ones, to get used to it.

Your videos are super helpful, tho, having the bundle, does give me a few too many permutations to figure out. It’s good to have the extra flexibility but I think I’ll keep it as a proper chest pack for now.

And your help and customer support were great too.

I’ll send a photo when I get the next opportunity.

Thanks

Hi Jody. I have already left one review but I have just used the pack in the Beacons Way 105km and wanted to let you know my experience having used it for such a long distance and time. It is just the most brilliant piece of kit that made everything I needed accessible with ease on the move. My back pack had my mandatory kit and a couple of extra bits in and remained mostly untouched, just removing it to fill my water bladder so no faffing getting bits from that. I had my snacks, head torch, sunglasses, phone, compass, timings sheet in my chest pack and, of course, my poles. No faffing with side pockets etc finding things. The chest pack didn't move or rub or become uncomfortable or irritating in any way. It is just the best bit of kit.

Love my bag. Used it in the Montane Lakeland 50 at the weekend.
Ideal for all my stuff I always need whilst my main pack contained my emergency kit.

I have always found accessing the bits and bobs I need from a back pack on the move a complete faff as well as what to do with my poles.  I was about to buy a belt but wasn't sure that was going to suit me and then came across this.  I have found it to be the solution for me.  It is so well thought out in terms of pockets and size.  On a long run, I can carry my snacks, glasses, compass, map and get to it easily.  It has a small pocket to put my car key, bank card and a bit of cash in separately from snacks etc.  A front pocket to have my phone.  The poles can be put away and got out with ease. It is really comfy and was well tested for being waterproof on The Pigum run in wintery conditions in July 😫☔️🥶.  I have also worn it on it's own for shorter runs with my dog to take the bits and bobs I need.  Really great product.  👍

I wanted to take the time to do a real test of the GeekyHiker chest pocket. I used it for 1 week of trekking on the Stevenson Trail in the Cévennes in France. I was able to use it in lots of conditions, sun, rain, heat all while bivouac. My overall feeling is very, very good. The GeekyHiker is very well thought out, it allows you to carry what you need for the day, namely: guide, telephone, satellite beacon, energy bars, glasses etc... The individual pockets are well thought out and I used them in particular as a replacement for a wallet and identity documents. In the evening you can leave your backpack at the tent and have all your essential belongings in the GeekyHiker. I even used a little cord to use as a shoulder bag. Waterproofing and durability are excellent. The stick holder is practical. Certainly the pocket is not the lightest but it is made to last for years I think. The attachment system is simple and effective. It requires tightening it a little during the day and allows you to only undo it on one side to remove your bag. I am very satisfied with the GeekyHiker and thank you for the responsive customer service in answering questions.

I used my Geeky Hiker for the first time in anger in The Line 300. Fortunately, it performed a lot better than my injured knee.

Comfortable and held everything I needed. It stayed in position, didn’t rub and was generally so much more of a star performer than me :)

I have now used my Geeky Hiker front pack on several training days and on my recent completion of the Summer Spine Challenger North. It is really robust, well made and full of great features like the pole loops and GPS pouch on the front. It is far superior to similar products from bigger manufacturers that I have used in the past. Support a great emerging brand and buy this one!

Nick 8/7/24

Jan from Netherlands

I received the chestpack a few weeks before the 2024 Spine race, too late to make any adjustments to my Ultimate Direction backpack. I have been wearing the chestpack as a standalone pack, meaning at the start of the run I first had to put on the Geekyhiker pack, eventually my rain jacket followed by the backpack. Since this is somewhat cumbersome indeed I would recommend others to also buy the separate straps and to have these fitted in time. I will certainly consider this for a next big race.

The Geekyhiker pack was my go-to pack especially for food ration and gps during the day. I also would attached my poles when arriving at the various checkpoints so I would not lose/forget my poles. When running the poles do bounce around somewhat, bumping into ones lower body area. This was slightly uncomfortable, perhaps a seperate strap to tie the poles further down could be recommended.

All things considered I was absolutely pleased as the chestpack did make a great combination together with the 20ltr backpack (offering further additional front pockets as can be seen on the picture).

I wore the

GeekyHiker chest pack for the Spine Summer Sprint race, which was 44 miles.

All I can say is this pack is amazing! As the 5th finishing female in the race I was one of the faster runners. Wearing this pack helped me to keep my pace up along the route as I didn’t have to stop to take my pack off. I was able to get to all the essentials I needed with ease. This included being able to get my phone out to take some quick snaps of the beautiful Pennine way scenery! And to snack most of the way around which helped to keep me going.

I can honestly say it barely moves, and it felt comfortable, even when running on the flat sections at a quicker pace. Also, in terrible weather conditions everything stayed dry.

Great product which I highly recommend!

Training run trying out my fantastic @geekyhikergear chest pack. BEST THING EVER. Keeps everything I need during the Ultra close to hand and has pole holder at the bottom, no lugging off my vest to get to poles 👍

Even has a jelly baby pocket at the front 😂

Love my geekyhiker! Served me very well in the LDWA Speyside 100, no movement or discomfort and great for poles when not in use. The best part is having everything where you need it, very handy for snacks, chargers and bits I wanted close to hand. Thanks for such a great usable product. Very happy hiker 😊

It's perfect!

I have had a couple of chestpacks before and didn't really like them - too bouncy, too bulky, difficult to attach etc.

I had heard great things about 'The Geek' so I decided to order and chose the beautiful bright cerise.

It's beautifully made and has a lovely slim profile which I instantly loved.

On its first outing I did a long night run. I wore my favourite running vest, {which has virtually no upfront storage)with the Geek. I wore them independently and they sat very comfortably together.

My poles easily attached at the base and I used the pockets mainly for snacks, a hat, gloves and a jumper which I could easily pull on over my arms to keep off the cold on the tops and then quickly stow away when I warmed up again.

When the sun came up I put in my headtorch as there was plenty of room.

There was no bounce and it felt really comfortable.

I will use it now for all my long runs. It's a great piece of kit!

Trail ran with my new Geeky Hiker chest pack today while running with my dog clients, it was exactly what I needed!

Tight body fit so didn't bounce around!

Strong zips as I open and close it alot!

So many different compartments which is amazing as I can keep my car keys safe while accessing what I need while exercising the dogs.

Lovely and light too 👍

Absolutely love the pack! This is definitely going to change the game for me! Can fit everything I need for a day adventure. Easy to access while walking so no need to stop and fuss about like I normally do with my bag! So so easy to put on hardly know its there! Incredibly comfortable and I love the colour (I got the burgundy) Cant wait to try this on my big adventures.

Amazing design I think all hikers need to try this!!

Really can’t speak highly enough of this amazing chest pack. I’ve tried others out there and this is by far the best. A lot of thought has gone into it clearly. It’s perfect for running, walking and even cycling where I can keep my snacks, cables to keep watch charged and anything else I need. I completed the SW80k ultra marathon in torrential weather and my kit stayed totally dry inside the pack which has really surprised me especially with the weather we had. I’m going on to do some other events soon, Apocalypse in Church Stretton and The Montane Summer Spine in June where I wouldn’t be without my geeky hiker.

I used the geeky hiker chestpack to run Peddars Way, a 50 mile trail event starting in Suffolk and finishing on the Norfolk coast last month. Knowing that I’d need extra mandatory kit and on past experiences cramming this all into my hydration vest and then not being able to find anything when I needed it,the Geekyhiker proved to be just what I was looking for.

I didn’t know I was wearing it apart from the many people that asked about it! There was no bounce,if was easy to attach and open and close and most importantly I found it easy to find things I needed whilst running without having to stop and rummage through endless pockets.

Thank you so much Jody it is a valuable piece of kit that I’m so glad I invested in 😊

I can't speak highly enough of the Geeky Hiker Chest Pouch, I bought it about a month before The Winter Spine Race 2024 and used it three or four times prior to the event just to get used to it and to test it out. Having been designed and made by someone (Jody) who has knowledge of the Spine and all that it involves I was hopeful that it would meet the demands placed on it, i.e. it needed to be robust, it needed to be waterproof, it needed to be spacious enough to carry, hat, gloves, food, GPS, knife, spork and some painkillers! It did everything that I asked of it, the bit I loved the most was the zip, really strong and it didn't have that silly bit of fabric that covers some zips but then gets caught when you try to open or close it! This zip had a long enough tab that I could find and hold allowing me to open and closed the pouch easily and quickly.  I was slightly worried about the harness that sits under your main pack shoulder straps, however, on the test runs and on the event there were no issues. I finished.

Nick

I only found out about Geeky Hiker about 6 weeks before the Winter Downs 200, but the information and clear videos on the website convinced me that this would be just what I needed for the event. In particular I was interested in having important kit accessible and to be able to keep on top of charging watch / phone / GPS / head torch as necessary during the 3-4 day event. The idea of having my watch on the pack also seemed sensible when I was likely to be wearing waterproofs and mitts for much of the time.

I wore my Geeky Hiker with its back panel and this proved comfortable and with zero bounce for the 84 hours I was on the trail.

My GPS was secure in the mesh front pocket and didn’t move around or fall out (although of course it was also secured with a lanyard). It was quicker and less hassle to access the GPS than any race pack front pocket I’d tried it in in the past (less hassle = more likely that you use it when you’re tired!)

Watch attachment on the front worked well and I had good visibility of the face at all times.

I used the main section of the Geeky Hiker for electronic kit - power bank, mobile phone and head torch battery and spares. In particular it’s worth noting that I used the Silva Free 2 Ultra head torch which gives you the option of having the battery on an extension cord, not on the headband; this worked perfectly with the Geeky Hiker as the weight of the battery was much better distributed (i.e. not on my head for 3*16 hours of darkness) and the battery was probably kept abit warmer as well.

As I used my poles for almost all of the event I didn’t use the attachment loops significantly, although I had tried these in training and can confirm good levels of stability / minimal bounce and easy access and stowing.

I had a few snacks in my Geeky Hiker but mainly used the front pockets of my race pack (UD Fastpacker 20) for these, as well as a separate Montane bumbag. In hindsight I probably don’t need the bumbag as there was probably sufficient capacity between the race pack pockets and the Geeky Hiker.

Overall very well recommended and I look forward to using my Geeky Hiker on future long running events, as well as for backpacking and self-supported long hill runs. I’ll be using it this weekend for leading a group on a wintery recce of the UTS in Eryri

Viv

After trying a couple of other brands and kept finding they just didn’t work for me I contacted Jody at Geeky hiker. She was really helpful and offered her honest advice and opinion from one runner to another. I purchased a pack and from my first outing with it found it done exactly what I was after. It was comfortable, didn’t move about much and there was enough room for all my bits and bobs. Plus it’s waterproof which is a huge bonus as I live in Scotland and it rains a lot!

My pack came with me on the 2024 montane winter spine race and I’m sure it will see some another epic adventures!

Viv 1/2/24

I have one but I use it when I do photography, I can store all the small bits in it like effect lenses, lens covers, batteries, nibbles, a drink, things that would otherwise bulk out my camera backpack. Only 1 thing I haven't tried yet with the geek is see if I can get one of my tripods in where the sticks go. I'm very chuffed with my geek, so glad I bought one.

Bill 29/1/24

Ray

I used one of these on the Spine Race and I love them. The Geeky Hiker is a bag that fits on your chest. On a long run (especially multi-day) you need your food, and key things (e.g. map or phone) to be super-accessible.

I have used other bags in the past, but the Geeky Hiker is better because a) it is waterproof (most allow water to flow straight in), b) it sits tight, without bouncing about, c) I can fasten my poles to the bag when I am not using them, and d) the zip works even in bad conditions.

The bag has been created by Jody Manning who I met on this year's Montane Spine Race - because Jody is a runner she knows what was wrong with other bags and she designed this bag to meet her needs.

Mandy

I recently completed the Cheviot Goat Ultra, a winter race across one of the remotest parts of the UK. I used the Geeky Hiker chest-pack attached to my ultra vest and it worked really well for me on this event. I used it to store my handheld navigation device, a power bank + leads, my phone, two head-torches, spare batteries and food etc. It was also very reassuring to put my car key inside the inner zipped pocket where I knew it could not be lost. The geeky hiker pack was brilliant, it’s a very robust chest-pack with plenty of room and can be adjusted easily so it doesn’t bounce. I also stored a few pairs of hand warmers inside and it was incredibly helpful to be able to access them easily and quickly when I most needed them. Thank you Jody for inventing a brilliant running and hiking accessory, I will definately be using it again.

Mandy 13/12/23

Hi Jody, Did 30 miles with the chestpack last weekend and 10 miles yesterday, absolutely love it! No banging against me (and no trying to find somewhere on my rucksack to attach it to) and I love the elasticated bands for poles and the extra pocket at the front for the gps. I have just bought another one for my sister who is also doing the Spine Challenger, I have convinced her it is much better than the OMM! Many thanks, Jo

What a smart design & execution! Must be by a trail-runner for trail-runners :)

Just back from a long non-stop race in the Alps. Had this pouch on all the time with my daily nutrition, pharma stuff, passport /phone, headlight & spare battery, thin power bank, sunglasses securely attached outside, cash /card in hidden compartment plus poles attached horizontaly (vertical storage doesn't work for me, as poles just slide out and fall). What truly amazed me is that I could take off the hydration pack/ vest leaving the pouch on (unlike similar pouches that attach to the vest and are a PITA to handle on the run)! Also, by keeping food & stuff in the front - it took vest weight pressure off the back, besides making it so convenient! The pouch sat firmly on my chest throughout the run. So, I first put it on, then my Salomon Adv 12Ltr (tried with a similar model XA 25 too) and pass the strings thru under the pouch to fasten. Will most likely work with other companies' running /hydration vests as well. Proved convenient outside trail running too: I had it on all the time during train/bus & air travel to & from Switzerland with my essentials safe, secure and almost literally under my nose. Grading it 10 out of 10 - highly recommend!

A comfortable, versatile piece of kit!

I’m always looking at ways to carry essentials, from walking the dogs to running ultras that require a long list of mandatory kit.

The chest pack from Geekyhiker is a great addition to my kit list. I use this on shorter mid week runs where i want to carry a few items, it has been particularly handy in the summer months when i like to get some air circulation around my back.

I have also worn this with my hydration vest to give me additional storage, I particularly like that all the essentials feel balanced on my body while wearing both.

The pack itself is made with quality materials and feels durable and long lasting. You can tell alot of thought has been put into it’s design and production and although I’m yet to wear this in the worst of the Cornish weather, I am confident it will stand up to that test and I look forward to wearing it in January for the Arc.

A very kind friend of mine bought me my GeekyHiker chest pack, I had every intention of buying one but she beat me to it!

I was impressed from the word go, the fit is both snug and comfortable and you can get so much more than you could ever imagine inside of it.

I recently did the Endure 24 event in Leeds and wore the GeekyHiker for every lap that I did and I absolutely adore the convenience of having everything up front, no more having to stop to swing a backpack off every time you need something. An absolute winner as far as I'm concerned.

I also did the Sheepy Shuffle with my close family and five pairs of comedy sunglasses proved to be no problem for the capacious interior of the GeekyHiker and due to the inclement weather it became the go to phone carrier for everyone as well.

Excellent product, have yet to find a downside and would recommend it to anyone.

As a fellow Spine Racer I too was frustrated by the lack of a decent, robust chest pack to organise vital frequently accessed kit on the move, while standing up to the British weather. What a stroke of luck that Geeky Hiker has solved that problem comprehensively.

I've finally managed a full test in the North Pennines last weekend in some at times rough conditions. The pack functioned perfectly. Once adjusted it doesn't budge even running downhill fully loaded. Having the pole loops is just so useful. As are the multiple pockets and attachment points which enable a decent amount of organisation and segregation of items so its easy to find things quickly.

While I will be using it with a larger backpack for events, the Geeky Hiker pack works just as well with a race vest and sits easily between the two bottle holders.

And it didn't let a drop of rain in. Even on Cross Fell.

I will definitely be using the pack on the Winter Spine in January. And every long run in between. It feels like it will take a lot of punishment. It does absolutely everything I want. And so affordable compared to mainstream alternatives that are far less well put together. Highly recommended.
